Finance Minister Confirms His Private Company Did Agyapa Job

More details continue to emerge about the controversial Agyapa Royalties Limited deal, revealing a deep-seated greed on the part of some of the promoters who are family member of the President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

They, include Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, who is accused of using their proximity to power, their knowledge of the government deals to award various aspects of the transaction to their private companies, instead of announcing the existence of the job and opening it up for competitive bidding process.

Databank, is one of the companies owned by the Finance Minister. Ghanaians were last Friday, shocked to hear that Databank Financial Services, was also engaged by the Finance Ministry to be part of the Agyapa transactions.

But this is not the first time that Ken Ofori-Atta’s companies; Databank Financial Services and Enterprise Insurance Company Limited under the Enterprise Group are also mentioned as competing for state jobs with companies

JPMorgan launched a new tool to help fill 7,500 finance jobs in New York City

(Boston Globe / Contributor / Getty Images)
Thousands of finance jobs are available in New York City, and JPMorgan is trying to fill them with a new search tool.

On Wednesday, the bank and the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning unveiled BankingOnMyCareer.com, seeking to help New Yorkers find “middle-skilled” financial-services jobs. Such jobs typically require a bit more training than a high-school diploma and a bit less training than a bachelor’s degree. According to a news release, 7,500 of these jobs are open in New York City.

“We want New Yorkers to know there are thousands of good-paying job opportunities in the financial services sector just waiting to be filled by middle-skilled workers,” said Chauncy Lennon, the head of workforce initiatives at JPMorgan Chase.

Available job opportunities on the site include anti-money-laundering analyst, which pays $60,000 to $80,000 a year, and customer-service representative, which pays $28,000 to $36,000 a

UK finance jobs revival halted by coronavirus

The COVID-19 pandemic killed a tentative revival in the City of London jobs market, new data shows.

Recruiter Morgan McKinley said on Monday that the number of new listings for financial services jobs in London rose by 8% in the first three months of 2020 compared to the final three months of 2019.

Job listings surged 97% in January, after Boris Johnson’s decisive election victory spurred optimism about a resolution to Brexit. Listings continued to grow in February but sank 38% in March as the novel coronavirus brought the UK economy to a halt.

“Out of the frying pan and into the fire,” said Hakan Enver, managing director at Morgan McKinley UK. “We barely got to take a breath between Brexit and this new global crisis.

“London came back in the new year, with a renewed optimism, which was reflective in the general mood of employees and employers alike. Soon

Canada’s deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland will be taking over the role of finance minister, Canadian media report.

Bill Morneau stepped down on Monday from the top finance job amid pressure from opposition parties, after five years in the role.

Ms Freeland, 52, will become the first woman to hold the powerful portfolio in Canada.

She is one of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s most trusted ministers.

Canada is going through its worst economic crisis since the Second World War due to the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

She has previously held several high-level cabinet positions, including the international trade portfolio.

As foreign minister she helped renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement – or Nafta – with the US and Mexico.

The former journalist was first elected as a member of parliament (MP) in 2013.
